Doing it right the first time . . .

What is SEO anyway?  I’ve been trying to understand what corrupts people so much that they feel like it’s worth it to pay some guy to fix all of their problems and ‘tweak’ a website so it will show up in search results.  I’ve seen a lot of money that could have been better spent elsewhere, had the job been done right the first time.

My way?  I write code from the beginning that is standard, readable, organized and makes sense.  That’s just the code, before you even see anything on your website.  Then I play by the old-school business rules of honesty.  I make sure the website says exactly what I do or my customer does, and that I or my customer does exactly what the website says.  This earns huge brownie points in the long run with search engines.

To me, it’s not that hard.  Maybe it takes others longer to realize that honesty is the best policy.
